Nowadays, the majority of sight problems can be corrected, and in the long term, through surgical intervention. In order to benefit from the best possible care, those wishing to undergo surgery must first consult an ophthalmologist to define their visual defects. Depending on the outcome of the diagnosis, the patient will then be referred to the appropriateeye surgery.

The benefits of eye surgery

Eye surgery is a highly effective procedure, as it can produce more than satisfactory results in a very short space of time. However, it’s important to remember that there are several types of visual anomalies. These include myopia, presbyopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Today, thanks to major medical advances, sight problems are no longer as irreparable as they once were. In the 21st century, many solutions are available, includinglaser surgery in Brussels. The latter is beginning to attract more and more people with visual problems, thanks to the many advantages it offers. It allows us to do away with glasses and contact lenses. It’s true that no-one really likes the idea of wearing glasses or contacts all day long, because despite their major usefulness, they get in the way on a daily basis.

But that’s not all: an eye operation can be performed in just a few minutes, and the recovery time is quite short. As a result, it takes just a few days to perform, and won’t take up all your time. That’s why it’s so popular today.

Interventions using laser beams

Cataract surgery is one of the most widely performed procedures worldwide. Various techniques are used to correct visual problems known as ametropia, known as refractive surgery.

Inlaser eye surgery, many different types of beam can be used depending on requirements:

  • The femtosecond laser is mainly used for operations on the cornea. It is also used for cataract surgery.
  • The Argon laser used in retinal surgery
  • The YAG laser: also used to treat secondary cataracts.
  • SLT laser: used to treat chronic glaucoma.

In refractive surgery, the use of lasers can modify the optical power of the cornea by reshaping its shape.

Implant procedures

Implants are also used in eye surgery. Implants are used when myopia (or hyperopia) is severe enough, in other words, when laser surgery is no longer an option. It is also effective in cataract surgery. Before the operation, calculations are made to determine the right implant power for each patient.
